what we teach

ISHA HATHA YOGA

"We teach Hatha Yoga as a transformative process. The transformation will not only be on the level of your body but in the way you are." - Sadhguru

Yoga is not about bending and twisting your body or holding your breath. It is a mechanism and a technology to get you to that state of experience where you see reality just the way it is. Classical yoga comprises of various methods to elevate and purify one’s energies and raise one’s perception to its peak. Today, however, the refined tools of classical yoga have been largely lost or grossly distorted due to socio‐cultural misunderstandings that have accumulated over many centuries. Only in a very few places, the classical system endures with its full vibrancy and sanctity. Moreover, access to this system has been traditionally reserved for the hardiest seekers and monks who devote their entire lives to spiritual sadhana and austerity. The chore of Sadhyoga is to bring this access to people with all kinds of lifestyle in the western world without any loss of effectiveness.

Right now the number of people practicing yoga is growing in a big way. This could be simply because the scientific community is slowly beginning to recognize the depth and dimension of what this is. But if improper, distorted kind of yoga spreads, in fifteen years’ time, scientific studies will clearly come out and tell you in how many ways it is harmful to human beings, and that will be the downfall. There are certain dimensions of this that are almost absent in the world today. It is there in some places, but generally in the known places, it is absent. It is important that we bring back classical yoga as it was. If it is taught in a proper atmosphere with a certain sense of humility and inclusiveness about the whole process, it is a really fantastic process of shaping your system into a fantastic vessel, a fabulous device to receive the Divine. It is a very powerful way of living. Power, not over somebody else; it’s all about power to access life.

"In yoga, depression is handled at the level of body, mind, and energies. Vibrant and balanced, you will naturally be blissful." - Sadhguru

Isha Hatha Yoga programs are an unparalleled opportunity to learn practices derived from a yogic tradition maintained in its full purity and vibrancy for thousands of years. The classes will be conducted by highly trained teachers and will offer classical Hatha Yoga in its full depth and dimension. They are not taught merely for physical fitness and strength. They are a holistic process of naturally achieving a certain mastery over the body and mind, so as to come to a state of health, joy, and bliss. They are ideal for the hectic pace of today’s world. Isha’s Hatha Yoga program offers a comprehensive set of yoga practices which require no special physical agility or previous experience of yoga. It is a very subtle process of changing the energy in the system, which in turn straightens out physical and mental imbalances. Regular practice of Hatha Yoga not only improves health and wellbeing, but also significantly enhances the experience of kriyas and meditation.

"You can use yoga to get rid of your backache or improve your focus and peace of mind - or you can use it as a ladder to the Divine." - Sadhguru

Isha Hatha Yoga is currently taught in 5 different classes: Upa Yoga, Angamardana, Surya Kriya, Yogasanas and Bhuta Shuddhi. These practices have been selected and designed by Sadhguru to develop mental clarity and focus, boost vigor and vitality, balance hormonal levels and take years off the body, bringing a sense of lightness and freedom. The practices are taught with a lot of care to detail and empower participants to do the practice on their own from there on.

„At first, I thought I would never be able to twist my body into these seemingly complex and impossible postures, at least not the way the man demonstrating them could do it. But after 2 weeks of 20-30 minutes of daily practice, I was able to get deeply into each pose. I haven’t stopped the practice since I started it over a year and a half ago, and have no intention of ever giving it up. As a side effect, my body has changed completely, slimming and toning in ways I could never accomplish with other forms of exercise. I have boundless energy in the morning, even when I feel too exhausted to walk from the bed to the shower to the yoga mat; once I get started, I feel magically energized and able to complete the practice. My flexibility has multiplied, and my meditation practice is infinitely more deep following the Hatha Yoga.“ - Eleanor
